Zammad: Open Source Helpdesk and Ticketing

Zammad is an open-source helpdesk and ticketing system. It brings email, web forms, chat and messaging channels into one shared inbox for your team, with triggers and schedulers for automation, SLAs, a knowledge base, a customer portal, role-based access and reporting.

Pre-bundled with this image are

  • Zammad 7.1 in Docker (database, search and real-time services on an isolated internal network with no port exposed to the internet, and the application reachable only through the proxy)
  • AlmaLinux 10: A stable and secure open source operating system.
  • PostgreSQL 17: A high-performance open source database.
  • Elasticsearch 9.5: full-text search, configured for Zammad.
  • Redis and Memcached: in-memory caches for sessions and real-time updates.
  • Nginx: serving the application inside the container.
  • Caddy reverse proxy: handles HTTPS and your free SSL certificate, and owns ports 80 and 443.
  • Docker and Docker Compose: the application and its services run as containers, so application updates do not require replacing the instance.

Your helpdesk is installed and ready when the installer finishes. There is no setup wizard to complete. The database, the search index and your administrator account are created for you, and the sign-in details are shown once, in the summary at the end of installation. Write them down: the password is generated for your instance and is not stored anywhere you can read it back.
Zammad signs in with an email address. The administrator address the installer creates is a placeholder that cannot receive mail, and changing it to your own should be the first thing you do.
Only three inbound ports are needed: 22, 80 and 443. The database, the search engine and the real-time services are reachable only from inside the instance.
